Margin is profit as a percentage of price (what most people mean by "margin"). Markup is profit as a percentage of cost. The two are easy to confuse and produce very different numbers - a 50% markup is only a 33% margin, not a 50% margin. This tool gives ballpark numbers for a single job; it doesn't account for taxes or how you allocate overhead across multiple jobs.
This math, built into every bid
Punchlist tracks bid-vs-actual profitability automatically, using real job costs, not a spreadsheet you have to remember to update.
