This is not a code calculation. Real electrical load calculations apply NEC demand factors, account for every circuit individually, and must be performed and stamped by a licensed electrician for permit and inspection purposes. Use this only as a rough starting-point estimate.

Uses 3 VA per square foot for general lighting (a commonly cited reference figure) plus 1,500 VA per small-appliance circuit and 1,500 VA for a laundry circuit if selected, added to your entered major appliance load, at 240V. This is the raw connected load with no demand factors applied - actual code calculations reduce most of this total using NEC demand factors, so a real panel size will typically be smaller than this number suggests. Always have a licensed electrician perform the actual load calculation before sizing a service or panel.
